A total of three Basic Sports Administration Courses were planned by the National Olympic Academy for 2009 and 2010. Of the 23 participants, only 5 were from national and state sports associations, namely, two officials from the Triathlon Association of Malaysia (TRIAM), one each from the Malaysia Amateur Athlete Union (MAAU), Malaysia Judo Federation (MJF) and from the Kuala Lumpur Dancers’ Association (KLDA).
This course was organised by the Ulu Klang Recreation Club (UKRC) headed by Mr. Andrew Gopal for the National Olympic Academy. It was indeed most heartening to note that Mr Andrew Gopal is a graduate of our 2nd ASMC course and has attended the Training of Trainers for BSAC/ASMC (TROT) course in 2009.

A total of 9 facilitators were involved. Five of the facilitators are graduates of the 2nd ASMC and have attended the TROT course in 2009. Outcome of the course :
The general feed-back from the course participants was that the course was interesting and informative and they all pledged to practice what that have learnt from the Course.
A. Participants’ Comments during the reflection session
1. Overall, the participants expressed their great satisfaction with the course content and the delivery strategy of the facilitators
2. The participants liked the interactive sessions which enabled them to have lively discussions with both the facilitators and their fellow participants.
3. The group discussions and presentations by the various groups of participants helped in enhancing their skills besides increasing their knowledge in the administration of their respective organizations.
4. The diverse background of the participants enriched their knowledge and understanding of other sports organizations and their management practices, issues and problems.
5. The participants have created a group email to network and live the learning community.
6. The majority of the participants expressed a keen interest to attend the ASMC course or any other courses conducted by OCM.
B. Observations and Reflections of the Facilitators
1. The rich diversity of the group indicated that this course has attracted participants from both the NSAs and other organizations.
2. An anchor facilitator is required to co-ordinate all the components of the course for the duration of the course. This is to ensure that there is a smooth transition of the different components by the different facilitators and also to cater for the differences of the diverse group. In this course Mr A. Lee who was the invited external consultant acted as the anchor facilitator.
3. A curriculum has to be written for the BSAC to install the standards and quality of this course.
4. Course participants must have a working command of the English Language to gain optimally from the course.
5. One of the notable characteristics of participants of sports organizations who have not attended management or administration courses but have carried out their jobs through hands on experiences is that they have quite a bit of mistaken certainties and these needed to be addressed quickly and continuously.
6. The NOA has to continue sourcing and training facilitators for future courses as the demand for such courses increases.
7. UKRC under the leadership of Mr Andrew Gopal did a wonderful job in organizing the course and managing the course secretariat.
