The XXI SEA Games

The logo of the upcoming XXI SEA Games in September was officially unveiled in a festive ceremony at Merdeka Square on Saturday evening, 3rd February 2001.

The launch was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi. Also present was Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein. Flanking the two are Si Tumas, Games mascot

The ceremony started with the handing over of the SEA Games flag by Malaysia's former sports personalities: footballer Datuk Abdul Ghani Minhat, badminton player Tan Yee Khan, Khairuddin Zainal from hockey and and M. Rajamani from athletics. Two of Malaysia's upcoming athletes diver Rosatimah Mohamad and golfer Ben Leong finally presented the flag to Deputy Primer Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

With about 200 days to go for the 21st SEA Games, the festive atmosphere at the launch is only a prelude of what is to come.

Dignitaries included the Selangor State Minister Dato Dr. Mohamad Khir Toyo and Tan Sri Dato' Kamaruzzaman Bin Shariff, who as Lord Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, shall be chief host of the 21st SEA Games which will be held essentially in Kuala Lumpur.
