Carlsberg Malaysia became a sponsor of OCM in 1994. The Carlsberg
sponsorship fees are utilized for the OCM-Carlsberg Athletes Retirement
Scheme, which was created to provide a retirement scheme for athletes who
fulfilled the following conditions:
- Athletes who won gold medals at
the Asian Games and/or the Commonwealth Games;
|
- Athletes who won gold, silver
or bronze medals at the Olympic Games.
|
The Retirement Scheme is in the form of
a Whole Life Insurance Policy for the benefiting athlete. OCM will pay
the annual premium for the Policy until the 14th year, after
which the benefiting athlete has the option of:
- Surrendering the Policy by
taking out the cash.
|
- To continue with the Policy
without premium payment, with death benefit of RM50,000/=, and still
having the option to surrender the Policy for cash.
|
- To
continue with the Policy by paying the premium privately
|
The value of the Policy for the
beneficiaries are as follows:
- Athletes who won gold medals,
in individual events, at the Asian Games and/or the Commonwealth
Games, will each be provided with a whole life policy of value
RM50,000/=. For members of a Doubles team, each member of the gold
winning pair will be provided with a whole life policy of value
RM25,000/=. For gold medal winning teams, with more than two
members, each member of the team, will be provided with a whole life
policy of value RM10,000/=.
|
- Athletes who won gold, silver
or bronze medals, in individual events, at the Olympic Games, will
be provided with a whole life policy of value RM160,000/=,
RM80,000/= or RM40,000/= respectively. For members of medal winning
teams, the value of each policy will be the above value for
individual medal winners, to be divided equally by the number of
team members.
|
- Athletes shall only be provided
with one whole life policy for one Games, irrespective of the number
of medals won.
|
- Athletes winning medals at
subsequent Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth Games, will be
provided with additional policies under the above conditions.
|
- The policies are assigned to
OCM and should any athlete, due to any serious misconduct or
involvement in any unlawful activity, may have the policy
terminated.
|
The OCM-Carlsberg Athletes Retirement
