Women's 3000m and 10,000m event at the 17th SEA Games which was held in Singapore |

1998
The OCM-Coca-Cola Award is usually awarded to the best male and female athletes based
on their performances at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. However due to the
exceptional performances of our athletes at the two international Games, the awards were
given out in two sets.

G. Savaran won the 50Km Men's Road Walk
Gold in the 16th Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur, beating his personal best with a
time of 4:10.05. |

Nurul Huda Baharin Won a Gold Medal for
Malaysia at the Commonwealth Games for the Individual Air Rifle event with a score of
494.8 a new Commonwealth Games Record. |

The Female Olympian of 2002 is awarded to Siti Zalina who won
a gold medal in dramatic fashion, for Lawn Bowls (Women Singles) for the 17th Commonwealth
Games Manchester. The 2001 Male Olympian of the Year is goes toHo Ro Bin who pulled a
surprise gold from the Mens Nanquan 3-Events Wushu competitions of the 2002 Busan
Asian Games. |
2003
Male Olympian 2003
Nazmizan Mohamad won the 100m and 200m sprint double at the 22nd SEA
Games in Hanoi,
Vietnam in December 2003. He became only the third Malaysian to
achieve such a feat. The last time a Malaysian won the sprint double
was in the 1967 SEAP Games, in Bangkok, 36 years ago, when the SEA
Games was known as the SEAP Games. |

Female Olympian
2003
Wong Mew Choo won the Women's Badminton Singles Gold Medal in the
22nd SEA Games 2003, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She became the
first Malaysian to win Woman Badminton Singles gold medal in the SEA
Games since 1977. |

Male Olympian of the
Year 2004
Josiah was awarded a scholarship by Olympic Solidarity to train full
time in the UCI Centre in Aigle, Switzerland from January 2003 until
August 2005, for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. His best
achievements in 2004 were a third place finish in the Sprint event
at the World Cup in Aguascalientes, Mexico and a second placing in
the Keirin event in the Manchester leg. He was injured in a fall
during training in April 2004, when he fractured his wrist but
managed to make a quick recovery to participate in the Athens
Olympic Games, where he finished 6th in the final of the Keirin
event and 11th in the Sprint event.

The OCM-Coca Cola Olympians of the Year Awards
for 2005 were presented to the most outstanding Male Athlete and
Female Athlete of the Malaysian Contingent at 23rd SEA
Games held in Philippine from 27th November to 5th
December 2005. The winners of the Awards are:
Ng
Shu Wai – Artistic Gymnastics
Ng Shu Wai won 3 individual gold medals and one team gold
medal in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics in the 23rd SEA Games,
making him the highest gold medal winner among the Malaysian male
athletes. The gold medals he won are the Individual All-around,
Individual Floor, and Individual High Bar, plus the Artistic Team
event. This is the first time a male Gymnast has won more than 2
gold medals in the SEA Games. He is the first Malaysian male
Gymnastic to qualify for an Olympic Games, having participated in
the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Wong Pei Tty and Chin Eei Hui – Badminton Women’s Doubles
The Women’s Badminton Doubles pair
won the gold medal in the Women’s Doubles in Badminton. First time
since 1977 has a Malaysian women’s Doubles team has won the gold
medal in the SEA Games.
Pei Tty and Eei Hui gave a world-class
performance and displayed tremendous fighting spirit, when they were
trailing in the third set to eventually defeat Indonesian pair, Jo
Novita and Greysia Polii 15-12, 9-15, 15-13. |

2006

The 2006 OCM-Coca Cola Olympian of the year Award, is now in its 14th year, having being inaugurated in 1993. The award is to recognize and honor excellent performances by national athletes in multi sports games. For 2006, achievements in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and the Doha Asian Games were considered.
The male Olympian of the Year was the Badminton Doubles Pair, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, who won the Men’s Doubles Gold medal in the Doha 2006 Asian Games, after a lapse of 36 years. Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, started as a pair at the Japan Open in October 2006, about 2 months before the Doha 2006 Asian Games, where they finished a runner-up to the Sydney Olympic Games gold medallists, Tony Gunawan and Candra Wijaya. In winning the gold medal in Doha, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, won all their matches in straight sets, beating the World Champion pair of Fu Haifung/Cai Yun from China in the Quarter Final, and two Indonesia pairs in the semi-final and in the final.
Esther Cheah from Tenpin Bowling won the female Olympian of the Year Award, for her excellent and consistent performances in the Doha 2006 Asian Games where her opponents included some of the world top players. She not only won the women’s singles but also the gold medal in the Women’s five player team and silver medals in the women’s pairs, women’s all events and the women’s masters.
The male Olympian of the Year and the female Olympian of the Year were each awarded a medallion and a cash prize of RM10,000.00.

2007

The 2007 OCM Coca-Cola Olympian of the Year Awards were presented to Daniel William Henry Bego and Khoo Cai Lin by the Right Honourable Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, at the 15th OCM Annual Dinner held on 4th February 2008 at the OCM Indoor Sports Arena, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. The 2007 Olympians of the Year each received a cash prize of RM10,000/= and a medal.
Daniel William Henry Bego
Daniel William Henry Bego won two gold medals in Swimming at the 24th SEA Games in Korat. The gold medals he won were in the 100m Butterfly event and the 200m Freestyle event. In both the above events, he set new SEA Games records. In the 100m Butterfly event, his new record was 54.33 sec. The old record for this event was 55.94 sec. In the 200m Freestyle event, his new record was 1:52.22 sec. The old record for this event was 1:52.47 sec.
In both the above events, Daniel Bego qualified for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, thus becoming the only Malaysian male swimmer and the third Malaysian swimmer to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He has also qualified for the 200m Butterfly event for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Khoo Cai Lin
Khoo Cai Lin won two gold medals in Swimming in the 24th SEA Games in Korat The gold medals she won were the 400m Freestyle event and the 800m Freestyle event. In both the above events, she set a new SEA Games records. In the 400m Freestyle event, her new record was 4:18.20. The old record for this event was 4:19.13. In the 800m Freestyle event, her new record was 8:47.80. The old record for this event was 8:56.88. In setting a new SEA Games record in the 800m Freestyle event, she also broke one of the longest national record set by Nurul Huda Abdullah in 1988.
In both the above events, Khoo Cai Lin qualified for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, thus becoming only the second Malaysian woman swimmer and the third Malaysian swimmer to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The OCM-Coca-Cola Olympian of the Year Awards 2008 were presented at the The 16th OCM Annual Dinner held on 12th December 2008 at OCM Indoor Sports Arena, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur.
Lee Chong Wei, who won a medal (silver) at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was selected the Male Olympian of the Year 2008. The Female Olympian of the Year 2008 was Siow Yi Ting (swimming), broke her own national record in the 200m Breaststroke event by 4.1 sec setting a new record of 2 min. 27.80 sec, in the 200m Women’s Breaststroke Heat, which placed her in 19th position in the overall ranking. Both the winners were each awarded a cash prize of RM10,000/= and a medal. |
2009

The OCM – Coca-Cola Olympian of the Year Awards are presented to the most outstanding male and female Malaysian athletes at the recognized “Games” under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation.
For the odd years, the Awards are presented based on the performance of the athletes at the SEA Games, while for the even years, the Awards are based on either the Olympic Games (if it is an Olympic Games year), or the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, during a non-Olympic Games even year.
For the 2009 OCM – Coca-Cola Olympian of the Year Awards for the most outstanding female athlete or team, of the 25th SEA Games are:
Male Olympian of the Year:
• Daniel Bego, who won 5 gold medals in swimming in Vientiane and broke 4 SEA Games records. He was awarded the Most Outstanding Athlete of the 25th SEA Games. Daniel Bego won the 2007 OCM – Coca-Cola Olympian of the Year Award.
Female Olympians of the Year
• The Women’s Badminton Team, that won the Women’s Team event after 34 years.
