III Youth Olympic Games 2018

Malaysia participated in the III Youth Olympic Games 2018 held in Buenos Aires with 20 athletes across 8 sports. The Chef-de-Mission of the contingent was Cheng Chu Sian, a former two-time Olympian archer. The OCM sent a total of 20 athletes to compete across 8 sports games.
The third edition of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires became Malaysia’s most successful Youth Olympic Games to date as Goh Jin Wei became the first athlete to win a Youth Olympic Games gold medal for Malaysia.
The national men’s junior hockey 5s squad claimed the second gold medal for Malaysia. Meanwhile, national teen gymnast Rayna Hoh Khai Ling bagged a silver through mixed multi-discipline team in Gymnastics although the medal was not credited to the Malaysia’s medal tally as the event was a mixed-national Olympic Committees event in which athletes from different nations team up to compete under the Olympic flag.
Emblem
The official emblem of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was presented in July 2015, three years before the games. The emblem reflects the diversity of Buenos Aires and it is inspired by the city's vibrant colours, eclectic culture, iconic architecture and the many neighbourhoods that make up the Argentine capital.
Each letter represents a famous landmark, including the Floralis Genérica, Space Tower, the Columbus Theatre, the National Library and the Obelisk.
Mascot
Inspired by the jaguar, one of the most emblematic wild cat species found in northern Argentina, Pandi symbolises the desire for Buenos Aires 2018, the first edition of an Olympic Games with strict gender equality, to serve as an important source of inspiration to build a better world through sport.
The jaguar, found in Argentina's northern region, is an endangered species, and Buenos Aires 2018 raised awareness about the species’ risk of extinction through the social media Twitter handle #Pandi.

Medals
Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi was born on the 8th of November 1938. After his retirement in 1991, as an Engineer in the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia, Dato’ Sieh chose to continue his involvement, full time, in the field of sports, where his life-long passion was, especially in the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).
Born on 21st March 1949, Y.A.M Tunku Tan Sri Imran is the second son of the late Tuanku Jaafar, an elected monarch of the Negeri Sembilan. Tunku Imran was educated in the UK at the King’s School, Canterbury and studied law at Nottingham University before being called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn, London in 1971 and qualifying as a Barrister at Law.
